Prince William County Schools Mathematics Vision Statement

The Prince William County Schools Mathematics program promotes an environment in which students develop a comprehensive and enduring understanding of the concepts of mathematics. Students learn to effectively apply these concepts and use a variety of problem solving strategies. The program nurtures a productive disposition toward mathematics, challenges all learners and supports further investigations in this field.
 

School Board Adopts Blended Approach to Mathematics
At its meeting on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, the Prince William County School Board approved a motion stating that Prince William County Public Schools will implement a consistent blended approach to mathematics education, and identified seven elements to be implemented.  Read School Board motion.

•  The Office of Mathematics hosted its ninth annual Prince William County Mathematics Challenge 24 Tournament on April 18 at Godwin Middle School.  This was the largest turnout in the history of the county’s tournament. (Read more...)

• PWCS Office of Mathematics has received a $30,000 grant from ExxonMobil to help  fund our Math Specialist Program. We currently have 26 teachers involved in a cohort toward a Masters Degree through George Mason University which will also earn them their K-8 Math Specialist endorsement.

•  Karen Mirkovich, Math Specialist at Swans Creek Elementary School, received a travel grant from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) to participate in the 11th International Congress on Mathematical Education in July that took place in Monterrey, Mexico. (Read more...)
