Statement
The
Prince William County Schools Mathematics program promotes an
environment in which students develop a comprehensive and enduring
understanding of the concepts of mathematics. Students learn to
effectively apply these concepts and use a variety of problem solving
strategies. The program nurtures a productive disposition toward
mathematics, challenges all learners and supports further investigations in this field.

NEW Mathematics SOL Content Workshops
for Elementary Teachers
These workshops will familiarize
participants with the new mathematics Standards
of Learning that will be in place beginning in
fall of 2010. The content of each workshop is
grade level specific and will focus on changes
to the mathematics curriculum at their
particular grade level. Teachers may register in
the online professional development catalog for
the course and session they wish to attend.

Elementary Mathematics Teacher Focus
Groups being formed
The Office of
Mathematics will facilitate Teacher Focus Groups
for every grade K-5 again this summer.
Teachers
selected to serve on the Teacher Focus Group for
any grade level will be paid $25 an hour for
their work as well as earn 15 hours of

Tournament
Celebrating a decade of mathematical fun, the Prince William County
Public Schools (PWCS) Office of Mathematics hosted its 10th annual
Prince William County Mathematics
Challenge
24Tournament on April 10. More than 100 students from 18 different
elementary and middle schools participated in this exciting tournament
held at Godwin Middle School.

Mickelson/ ExxonMobil Teacher Academy
Once
again Prince William County Schools has been invited to send ten 3rd
- 5th grade mathematics and science teachers to the
Mickelson ExxonMobil Math and Science Teacher Academy! This year, the
Academy will be held July 10 - 15 at The JW Marriott on Canal Street in
New Orleans, LA.
All expenses are
paid for by the Academy.
